Choosing Repertoire for the Percussion Methods Course
My Research
Throughout my time in graduate school, I accrued 5 years of teaching Percussion Methods courses for various levels of undergraduates. It very quickly became my passion, and I became infatuated with ideas on how to improve strategies in teaching this vital yet complicated course. From this idea, my dissertation "Choosing Repertoire for the Percussion Methods Course" was born!
My research outlines a simple plan in which teachers can maximize the exposure to both current literature and instrumental techniques for their percussion methods students by utilizing a "Band Day" model, or incorporating a scheduled day in which students get to actively play and conduct beginning band repertoire.
My research below includes a complete with easy-to-use curriculum, literature, and classroom discussion recommendations. In short, every piece features one (or several) fundamental percussion skills that both teachers and students should know, making it a great example for the classroom.
